Psilocybe azurescens is a psychedelic mushroom species that contains the active chemicals psilocybin and psilocin. It is one of the most powerful tryptamine-containing mushrooms, with up to 1.8 percent psilocybin, 0.5 percent psilocin, and 0.4 percent baeocystin by dry weight, with an average of 1.1 percent psilocybin and 0.15 percent psilocin.
P. azurescens grows wild in a small area of the United States’ West Coast, including sections of Oregon and California. It’s been spotted as far south as Depoe Bay, Oregon, and as far north as Grays Harbor County, Washington on several occasions. The Columbia River Delta is its major site; the initial type collections were collected in Hammond, Oregon, near Astoria.
Psilocybe cubensis (Earle) Singer, the most well-known species in the genus Psilocybe, is a tropical/subtropical species that grows in cow dung. The stem is thick, the cap is broad brown/yellow, and the annulus is skirt-like. P. cubsensis is a relatively easy plant to grow, as seen by Terrence McKenna’s “5 grams in silent darkness,” something you probably wouldn’t want to do with Psilocybe A.
According to legend, they were discovered by a group of Boy Scouts camping near the mouth of the Columbia River in Oregon in 1979. Local foragers referred to them as Psilocybe astoriensis or Psilocybe cyanescens var. [variant] “astoria ossip” before this period, according to some observers. Paul Stamets, a mycologist, and his colleague Jochen Gartz established the Paul Stamets and Jochen Gartz Foundation in 1995. named “Psilocybe azurescens”—after Stamets’ son Azureus, who had in turn been named after “Azure,” the color that psilocybin mushrooms bruise when damaged.
Since the effects of magic mushrooms can last for a while, how much you take is important to be careful. Taking a high dose may lead to powerful psychoactive effects, and while this can be appreciated by those familiar with psychedelics, inexperienced users can feel confused and have a bad ride.
For beginners who want manageable psychoactive effects, about 1.5-2 grams of dried magic mushrooms are considered a good variety. You will experience heightened senses at this range and likely mild hallucinations that are not too overwhelming. With hallucinations and a skewed sense of time and reality, up to 3.5 grams can give you a classic psychedelic ride.
There are a few successful ways to use magic mushrooms, and your personal preference and how much you want to take is based on the right process. There are also more fun ways to take them, though you can simply consume magic mushrooms.
Dried magic mushrooms can be purchased and consumed whole. Until eating them, it’s best to measure the amount you consume to get an accurate dose. Alternatively, to mask the bitter taste of the magic mushrooms, you can brew them into tea and add other Xavorings.
For users needing a convenient microdose of shrooms in each serving, Shroom Capsules are a good choice. Without trippy results, each contains a small amount of psilocybin to boost your mood and senses.
You can use psilocybin-infused edibles and beverages as well. These provide a more friendly way to cope with the symptoms of psilocybin. They usually include a microdose in each serving, but several servings may simply be by consumers who want stronger results.
